Old Town Company Run 2023 in Kulmbach – Companies are setting a good example when it comes to sustainability

Kulmbach – At this year’s “Old Town Company Run”, which took place as part of the Kulmbach Old Town Festival, the focus was not only on team spirit and sporting achievement, but also on climate protection. Yesterday, 22 teams from 17 different companies, clubs and organisations gathered in Kulmbach’s market square to compete in an exciting race for the coveted victory.

First place went to the organisers’ team, ‘Glen Dimplex 1’, which left all the other teams trailing in its wake with an impressive total time of 15 minutes and 16 seconds. The participants covered a total of 175 kilometres. This fantastic achievement supports the ‘50,000 Trees for Upper Franconia’ campaign.

This year’s company run was organised by Glen Dimplex Germany in collaboration with the Kulmbach-based fitness centre ‘fit’n fun’. As an expert in energy-efficient heat pumps and cooling solutions, Glen Dimplex has been committed to sustainability for 50 years. It was therefore only natural that this year’s run was held under the motto ‘Running for the Climate’. For every kilometre run, Glen Dimplex will donate one tree, and for every lap completed in under 3 minutes and 30 seconds, two trees will be donated.

Incidentally, for anyone who didn’t actively take part in the run, there was another incredibly tasty way to get involved in the tree-donation campaign: at two ice-cream stalls, Glen Dimplex staff sold three specially created ice-cream flavours in red, blue and green. Each scoop cost one euro, and for every fifth scoop sold, a tree was donated. The organiser, Glen Dimplex Germany, was ultimately able to donate 280 trees.

As part of the prize-giving ceremony, a special prize was also awarded for the most creative baton in the race. The judging panel, chaired by Lord Mayor Ingo Lehmann, awarded this prize to the team from DIE KITA gemeinnützige GmbH.
On this occasion, the organisers expressed their heartfelt thanks to everyone involved who had helped to make this race possible. Special thanks went to the Lord Mayor, the city, the district administration and the volunteers on site.

Glen Dimplex Germany is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and is part of an international group of companies with around 10,000 employees worldwide. The ‘Alstadt Company Run’ was one of many initiatives organised as part of this anniversary to give something back to the local community and the region. This initiative was also supported by the parent company in Ireland.
